Prague Christmas markets 2026: which ones are worth it

Blog lists rank them all the same. Here is every market in the guide with our honest verdict, 2025 prices and this season's dates (checked Oct 2026). The full guide adds the map, transit, food, kids' tips and Christmas-week hours.

Old Town Square Christmas market, Prague
Staroměstské náměstí · Prague 1

Old Town Square

The postcard: the giant tree, Týn's spires and the whole city around you.

Prague's main market fills Old Town Square under the Gothic Týn church, with the big tree, a stage programme and the Astronomical Clock around the corner. It's also the priciest: in 2025 a 2 dl svařák cost 100 Kč and a langoš 220 Kč.

Season: 28 Nov – 6 Jan (Tree lights up Sat 28 Nov)
Hours: Daily 10:00–22:00 (24–26 Dec: see Christmas week)
Getting there: Metro A Staroměstská (~5 min walk)
Don't miss: The tree after dark, from the Týn side
Skip if: You hate crowds. Come before 11:00 or after 21:00, or keep your phone zipped away by the tree.
Wenceslas Square Christmas market, Prague
Václavské náměstí · lower end

Wenceslas Square

The big boulevard market: food, a second tree, and open until 6 January.

Stalls line the lower end of the square, by Můstek, five minutes' walk from Old Town Square. It's more of a food-and-drink stop than a crafts market, so treat it as part of the same evening rather than a destination of its own.

Season: 28 Nov – 6 Jan (Same dates as Old Town)
Hours: Daily 10:00–22:00 (24–26 Dec: see Christmas week)
Getting there: Metro A/B Můstek
Don't miss: The tree at the bottom of the square
Skip if: You want crafts or charm. Náměstí Míru and Jiřák do that far better.
Náměstí Míru Christmas market, Prague
Vinohrady · Prague 2

Náměstí Míru

The locals' favourite, under a twin-spired church. First to open.

Wooden stalls fill the square in front of the neo-Gothic Basilica of St Ludmila, two metro stops from the Old Town. More Prague families than tour groups, better prices, and handmade gifts rather than souvenirs.

Season: 20 Nov – 24 Dec (Opens earliest)
Hours: Daily 10:00–20:00
Getting there: Metro A Náměstí Míru (Exit straight onto the square)
Don't miss: Medovina (hot mead) for about 100 Kč
Skip if: You're out late. It closes at 20:00.
Náměstí Republiky Christmas market, Prague
By the Municipal House · Prague 1

Náměstí Republiky

The cheapest drinks in the centre, next to Art Nouveau splendour.

A compact market beside the Municipal House and the Powder Tower, the gate to the Old Town. Good gingerbread and sweet stalls, and in the 2023 price survey the cheapest mulled wine in town.

Season: 25 Nov – 24 Dec
Hours: Daily 10:00–20:00
Getting there: Metro B Náměstí Republiky
Don't miss: Painted gingerbread from the sweet stalls
Skip if: You only have time for one market. Old Town Square is six minutes away.
Jiřák Christmas market, Prague
Advent na Jiřáku · Jiřího z Poděbrad

Jiřák

Prague's food lovers' market, in a neighbourhood full of cafés.

Advent on Jiřák takes over Jiřího z Poděbrad square, in front of Plečnik's striking modernist Church of the Most Sacred Heart. Locals come here for the food: Vinohrady is Prague's café and wine-bar quarter, so the evening can continue nearby.

Season: 28 Nov – 23 Dec
Hours: Not yet published (Check before you go)
Getting there: Metro A Jiřího z Poděbrad (Exit onto the square)
Don't miss: The modernist church with the giant clock face
Skip if: You want the big Christmas picture. It's a neighbourhood market.
Tylovo náměstí Christmas market, Prague
Small square market · Prague 2

Tylovo náměstí

A tiny neighbourhood market. Five minutes from Náměstí Míru.

A few stalls and a tree on a small square near I. P. Pavlova. Not worth a trip on its own, but an easy first stop on the way to Náměstí Míru: see walk 1.

Season: 26 Nov – 24 Dec
Hours: Not yet published
Getting there: Metro C I. P. Pavlova (~2 min walk)
Don't miss: A quiet svařák before Náměstí Míru
Skip if: It's your only market tonight. Go straight to Náměstí Míru.
Kampa Christmas market, Prague
Island park by Charles Bridge · Malá Strana

Kampa

A small market on the island under Charles Bridge. 2026 dates not yet confirmed.

Kampa is the riverside park below Charles Bridge, on the Malá Strana side. In 2025 a small market ran here from early December into January. The organisers haven't confirmed 2026 yet, so check before you go.

Season: TBC for 2026 (2025: 3 Dec – 4 Jan)
Hours: Not yet published
Getting there: Tram to Hellichova (or walk over Charles Bridge)
Don't miss: The steps down from Charles Bridge
Skip if: It hasn't been confirmed by the time you travel. The walk is still worth it.
Havelská Christmas market, Prague
Year-round market · Old Town

Havelská

Not a Christmas market: a year-round street market right on your way.

Prague's oldest market street sits between Wenceslas Square and Old Town Square. Today it's mostly fruit, wooden toys and souvenirs. Handy for a snack on the way through, but don't confuse it with the Christmas markets.

Season: All year
Hours: Mon–Sat 7:00–19:00 (Sun 8:00–18:30)
Getting there: Metro A/B Můstek (~3 min walk)
Don't miss: Fresh fruit after too much trdelník
Skip if: You want Christmas atmosphere. It closes before the markets light up.
